Welcome, Friends, to the 1st Bi-Weekly (maybe) Indoor Early Spring Seed Growing Awards! I’ve had 5 pots sitting on the windowsill in my kitchen for two weeks now, and I know you must just be dying to see how much they’ve grown. See here if you missed their Premier Debut!
Here are our contenders:
I know, awesome photography, right?! Ha. Sorry, folks, I’m just working with what I have. From L to R in the above photo are Mini Roses in Pots 1 & 2, Green Onions in the center pot, Cilantro in the 4th, and Basil in the 5th. A few of them have been getting ready for their closeup shots and are now coming out of hair & makeup.
Up for “Most Populated Growth”, also known as “Most Successful Germinator”, we have the Mini Roses – you may need to look closely, but I promise they’re there! Tons of ’em.
Next up we have “Slowest Germinator On The Sill” and also “Biggest Surprise, I Expected Them To Grow Much Faster Than This” – Basil!
Nominated for the most coveted “Best New (to me) Seed” award as well as “Fastest Grower On The Sill” award – Cilantro!
And finally, a strong contender for “Fastest Grower On the Sill” until a devastating tumble off the sill on Sunday afternoon, here is the now-recuperating Green Onion! (Photo taken prior to said tumble off sill)
*round of applause*
Due to an overall lack of competition in each category, all nominees are officially the winners of their own nominated category, and for their efforts during the last two weeks will receive a MiracleGro spa day, courtesy of me. As for the Green Onion pot, which sadly had to respectfully withdraw from the competition, MiracleGro will be applied anyway in hopes for a better appearance at the next award show.
After all, it is awards season, right?
Thank you for your attendance, and as always, we hope you enjoyed the show.

Ha!! Too funny! And a bit inspiring…. Maybe I should start my garden…

Heidi,
Do you plant your entire garden from seeds? We don’t. But I don’t know when to start them if we do! I don’t want to plant things too early & have them overgrown before we plant them outdoors. 🙂

You started my day with a laugh.

I was writing that post during the Oscars.. I guess they just needed to be meshed. 🙂
Love you!

Hah! Poor green onion… Wish I was growing a garden on the windowsill. Have I missed the opportunity?
suzannebrandsen said:
Yes, poor green onion.. I knocked it off the shelf AGAIN yesterday! BOO!! I shouldn’t be allowed to come within 10 feet of it. I don’t think it matters when you plant things for indoors, as long as they get some light. I usually keep something all winter on the sill (without knocking it down) but I forgot to this year. I say go for it! I bet you’d like a little pot of basil. 🙂

Love it! Yours are doing better than mine … I was just working an an update about my garden — it’s looking pretty bare out there! Can’t wait to see those mini-roses in full bloom!

Well I’ve knocked my green onions down two times now, not sure if that qualifies as success.. 🙂 But everything else looks like it might live! I don’t know about the mini roses, they’re so tiny it’s hard to picture them growing. But if they make it I think I’ll have about a zillion of them.

You brought another smile to my face! 🙂

Happy Wednesday to you! 🙂

What a delight – you do put a smile on our faces with your whimsy. And yes, you were the inspiration behind my sweet peas getting started in damp paper towel. All but 3 of the 35 sprouted and were planted today in little pots. Oh yes, the 3 are thrown in too. Today it snowed and rained so their safe-harbor will be in the laundry room in the garage (cool and light) until the weather moderates again. Keep us posted …

Sounds like fun! I don’t think I’m going to do any peas.. Unless Josh really wants them this year. So you’ll have to enjoy yours for us! Looks like you’ll have tons of em.

haha great post… may I make a suggestion to solve your green-onion-destruction tendency? duct tape the pot to the windowsill! lol
suzannebrandsen said:
You know, that’s really not a bad idea! However, after “Tumble #2” it’s kinda depressing to even look at them. So I think I’ll just be moving them to a different window. Sad in a way since it’s not even their fault. 🙂

I know what the solution could have been… give the green onion pot the first Oscar of the evening, and escort it off Backstage out of sight.
I think they usually have social workers back there to help the winners deal with their emotions….
Are get-well cards in order?
suzannebrandsen said:
Haha!! Just the image of escorting a green onion pot anywhere.. Funny! Believe me, if it could, this thing would have some serious emotions. But I think I’ll hold off on the cards.
By the way, thanks for the fabric! 🙂 So pretty.

Funny post. I just planted seeds earlier this week and have them stashed in the laundry room… my hubby will probably protest any second. (:
How long did it take for your basil to sprout? I was hoping to bring mine (lush and full) to friends as gifts in two weeks and I’m thinking that my timeline may just be wishful thinking.

Oooh! That’s a really good idea to bring little basil plants to friends.. Sadly, if yours are anything like mine, they’ll be itty bitty still after a couple weeks. Good luck! 🙂 (& thanks for the cute gift idea)
