Our annabelle hydrangea snowball bush has no sense of boundaries. It’s right next to our back door & has been hogging all of our sidewalk space. Sometimes a bloom will even get itself stuck in the door as it closes, kamikaze-style. Time for a haircut!
I cut over 20 blooms, just from that one side. This thing is huuuuuge. And very loved – except for that one bloom that I shook OVER TWENTY earwigs off of. Full body convulsive shuddering. Still.
But anyway, aren’t these pretty?
AND my beloved sweet peas are blooming. They’re pretty, but none of them smell super sweet like I’ve heard. Is there an unscented variety? I feel like I may have that one.
Scent or no scent, they’ve been fun to grow. I think next year I’ll do a little row of them in the garden and leave the real vine work to morning glories or scarlet runner beans.

Hydrangeas have been my favorite this year! Yours are gorgeous. I love those snowball bushes. Although I think 20 earwigs would have made me scream and not stop screaming!!!
Oh, it was bad. And the sad thing is I haven’t cut any more to bring inside since that incident. It’s a lot to get past, you know?
Earwigs are the absolute scourge of the earth, are they not?
Love the snowball bush and the snowball bouquet!
Our purple hydrangeas are encroaching on our driveway, right where Rob parks. I’m like: don’t hit the flowers!! Back up!
Haha! Good thing your hydrangeas have you around to protect them.
Purple would be so pretty! I’m going to try and get my pink ones to turn blue next spring. That’s the plan anyway.
I’m super jealous of your snowball bush! Such pretty blooms!
I wish I could send some your way.
Minus the earwigs, obvs. haha
Beautiful, beautiful!!! I just can’t keep them moist enough, if you can believe that “/
Aw, I’m glad you liked them! Our summer has been so hot & dry that I’ve had a little trouble keeping everything watered too.
Your Annabelle hydrangea is truly a prolific bloomer. I was given a white non ball type as a gift for helping a Romanian with ESL. I planted it in the yard and now have 4 large bushes. It is easy to layer a branch and start a new one. Mine turns from white to magenta in the fall. I make indoor bouquets then and have flowers all winter. I love my hydrangea too.
Marilee, I tried layering my other hydrangea last fall and it was not at all successful.. But I have heard that it’s pretty easy before, so especially given your success story, maybe I should vie it another shot.
